Magician Lake District

Lake District & Cumbria Wedding Magician. Matt entertains at venues throughout Cumbria and the Lake District, primarily performing as a wedding magician, but also for private and corporate events. He’ll astonish your guests and help to fill your venue with laughter. There are so many beautiful venues throughout Cumbria, from Bassenthwaite to Barrow, Kendal to Keswick and Windermere to Whitehaven, Matt would love to come along and entertain your guests.

If you’d like to see some of the magical entertainment Matt brings to weddings and events see Videos.

To give one event example Matt has entertained as a table magician at Armathwaite Hall  for their New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve Eve hospitality for 19(!) years. Hence a quick recommendation for their Christmas Breaks, which include a traditional sing-a-long too…

Wedding Venues Lake District & Cumbria

If you are looking for venues for your wedding, the Lakes has soooooo many. And what a beautiful place for your friends and family to travel to. Venues and events Matt has entertained at include:

Armathwaite Hall

Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa, Bassenthwaite Lake, Keswick CA12 4RE.
Sticking with performances at Armathwaite Hall. These include Matt’s undercover waiters act for 20 wedding guests at a single large table in the Lake Room, to close-up and table magic during the wedding breakfast in the Lime Trees Suite.

Laura Ashley The Belsfield Hotel

Kendal Rd, Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere LA23 3EL
Performance: close-up and table magic as a wedding day magician.
“Hi Matt, Cara and I wanted to express our thanks for the incredible performance you gave at our wedding. The guests haven’t stopped talking how great you were since Saturday! Many thanks for what appeared to be an extended duration, and also for the printing of pictures for our guests, it was a really nice touch. Finally thank you for the signed pack of cards in our wedding box, that was very personal and we were both really chuffed when we discovered it the next day. If there’s anywhere I can leave a review, or help promote in any way, please let me know and I’d be more than happy to help. Thank you for everything, and for making our day that little bit more special.” Craig and Cara x

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

23 Church St, Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere LA23 3DF
Wedding Day Magic. “Hi Matt, Thank you very much for entertaining our guests at the wedding. I remember sitting during the meal watching everyone in hysterics watching your tricks. Definitely happy that everyone had a good time! :-)” Rachel & Georgia. I liked the wedding cake message…

Wedding Magician Macdonald Hotel Windermere

Storrs Hall on the Lake.

Storrs Hall, Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria, LA23 3LG, UK
Performance: close-up and table magician disguised as a magic waiter. 19 guests at a wedding. The guests had a boat cruise around Lake Windermere and then dinner in the evening. I was there to meet and greet them for drinks at 715pm in the bar area.

Whitehaven Golf Club

Red Lonning, Whitehaven CA28 8UD
Photos of Matt entertaining as a wedding magician (and pickpocket). Stealing watches, and pickpocketing a tie and pocket square. Matt is wearing them and his helper hasn’t noticed yet. It is a very funny piece of magic for the other guests at the table.

North Lakes Hotel & Spa Penrith

Ullswater Road, Penrith
Corporate dinner. “A very belated thank you from us – for your wonderful entertainment last Saturday in Penrith. You went down a storm and everyone was hugely impressed with your skills. Even your boxers have received acclaim! I’ve also been asked to pass on your contact details to others who organise functions in the North West. I have, of course and hope you get more work out of it – you deserve it!” Nicki Waldman, Pearl Medical

Chequers Hotel & Poaka Beck Restaurant

9-10 Abbey Rd, Dalton-in-Furness LA15 8LF
This was Anthony and Edel’s wedding venue near Barrow.

Broughton Craggs Hotel

Craggs Rd, Great Broughton, Cockermouth CA13 0XP
And now for something completely different. I wasn’t the only entertainment during the reception drinks. A wedding entertainment idea with a difference…

Langdale Chase Hotel

Ambleside Rd, Windermere LA23 1LW
NB Wilf Mcguinnes Daughter’s

the venue where I met the Scottish man who was a fan of potatoes? Penrith…

Wedding Activity Recommendations in the Lake District & Cumbria.

“I love the Lake District. Having spent a lot of time having adventures around the Lakes, and more recently with my family and our children, there is so much I’d recommend. In case your guests have some spare time here are some additional ideas for things to see and do”. Magic Matt

Wast Water – outstanding.
PHOTO TO ADD and swimming it.

Jack’s Rake
This is a fabulous scramble in the Langdale Pikes if you are adventurous. But it is slightly exposed so not one for the feint hearted, nor inexperienced walkers. BMC advice and info is here.

The Samling Luxury Country Hotel in the Lake District, Ambleside Rd, Windermere LA23 1LR
This is also a wedding venue available for exclusive hire.

The Puzzling Place
9 museum Square, Keswick CA12 5DZ
It’s a fascinating Illusion Museum – for kids – and adults! I think it is worth a visit for the Ames room alone.

Via Ferrata.
Honister Slate mine (address Honister Pass, Keswick CA12 5XN).
If you’d like to do something adventurous that isn’t a typical stag do activity like canyoning (called ghyll scrambling in the Lake District).

If you’d like a challenge you can hire bikes from West Lakes Adventure and cycle up Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass. Listed in The Guardian as 2 of the top 10 toughest cycle climbs in Britain. We cycled them as a part of a 20 mile circuit to see how fit we’d need to be to do the Fred Whitton Challenge. It turned out we aren’t nearly fit enough. But a lack of fitness didn’t stop us from…

Swimming across Lake Windermere…

And a final recommendation for accommodation and adventure…

The Wasdale Head Inn

Wasdale Head, Gosforth CA20 1EX
Near Scafell Pike (why not tick off summiting the highest peak in England? The shortest route up is from Wasdale) and Great Gable, and claiming to be the birthplace of British rock climbing. It has one of my favourite bedrooms – as it actually has the fire escape sign on the room door. So at least if there was a fire you’d be woken up by everyone making a dash for it through your room. Which reminds me of another venue that had a sign “In case of fire arouse neighbours”…

And if you enjoy walks – I’d recommend the guides available from – they have Lukas Saville’s info about What to do in the Lakes e.g. Skafell Pike route info – all the information about the location, a thorough route guide and even GPS coordinates anyone can download for free.
